BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

What to Have Ready

A little preparation goes a long way when travelling to remote areas of Botswana. Make sure you have the required documents, travel essentials and arrangements in place before setting off.

Valid Passport

Your passport should be valid for at least three months before expiry.

Botswana Currency

Make sure you have access to Botswana currency for your journey.

Travelling With Children

Children under 18 require an unabridged birth certificate.

Travelling With One Parent

An affidavit is required if a child under 18 travels with one parent.

Self-Drive Documentation

If you are driving yourself from outside Botswana, bring certified copy and original vehicle registration paper. (If not your own vehicle certified permission letter from owner)

Insurance Documentation

Bring a letter from your insurance company and a letter from your financial institution where required.

Malaria Medication

Make sure you have any required malaria medication before travelling.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended, particularly when travelling in remote areas.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Make sure you have travel insurance and all required medication before travelling. Emergency helicopter evacuation is available.

GETTING HERE

Getting to Mababe

Mababe River Lodge & Campsites is located in the Khwai Mababe region of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Depending on your itinerary, you can reach us by self-drive or arrange a road or helicopter transfer from a nearby arrival point.

SELF-DRIVE

Travelling to Mababe by Road

If you are travelling to Mababe by road, make sure you have everything you need for the journey like petro/Diesel, water and food as Maun and Kasane is your last stop for provisions. Our campsites are for self-drive travellers, and you will need to bring your own tent and camping equipment.

Plan Your Safari Experiences

Day excursions must be booked 7 days in advance. If you would like to include game drives, boat trips, mokoro experiences or helicopter scenic flights during your stay, please arrange them before you arrive.

GAME DRIVES

Excursions to Moremi National Park, Xakanaxa and Savute.

BOAT TRIPS

Boat trips are available from Xakanaxa and need to be booked in advance.

MOKORO TRIPS

Experience the Khwai River bordering Moremi National Park by mokoro.

HELICOPTER SCENIC FLIGHTS

See the Okavango Delta, Khwai and Mababe from above.
